Devlog #2

🔦 Introduction

Since our last devlog, we’ve been pushing forward with one of the key themes in Rooms of Delirium: madness. Our goal is not only to scare the player but to blur the line between what’s real and what’s imagined.

In this stage, we focused on giving madness real consequences — not just a visual effect, but something that changes the way you experience the game.

😵‍💫 What’s New

Over the past weeks, we’ve implemented different consequences tied to the player’s madness level. As the player descends deeper into delirium, the world reacts in unpredictable ways:

  • Visual and sound distortions that alter perception.

  • Environmental changes tied to the character’s mental state.

  • Subtle shifts that affect movement and spatial awareness.

We also improved the flashlight visibility — adjusting its range, diffusion, and interaction with shadows. This makes exploration feel more tense and immersive, where light truly becomes your only ally.

Finally, we polished the map tiles and visual composition, creating a more consistent and eerie atmosphere. The new tiles help define the tone of each room and make navigation smoother and more visually engaging.

🧩 What’s Next

In the upcoming weeks, our plan is to expand the madness system even further and make it central to the gameplay loop. Specifically, we’ll be working on:

  • New random events that heighten paranoia and uncertainty.

  • Performance optimization and improved enemy AI behavior.

  • Better lighting transitions between sanity states to enhance immersion.

Depending on progress, we’re also planning to release a playable build soon to gather feedback on the new madness and lighting systems.

🕯️ Closing Thoughts

Each step brings us closer to the true vision of Rooms of Delirium: a psychological horror experience where light, reason, and reality slowly fade away.

We’re thrilled to keep sharing our journey — and we’d love to hear your thoughts and feedback!
Stay tuned, and don’t let the dark consume you.
